The church, which stands on an ancient pagan burial ground, is dedicated to one of the great Sardinian saints, Gavino, commander of the Roman garrison at Torres during the reign of the emperor Diocletian. At the Archaeology Park & Museum, view the excavated remains of Turris Libisonis, the ancient Roman city on which the modern day Porto Torres stands. Highlights include numerous ceramics, busts, marble statues, mosaics, and an impressive Roman bridge.

Almeria, Spain
It is thought that John Lennon penned the lyrics of “Strawberry Fields Forever” while in Almería. The southeastern Spanish city is also the location where the award-winning, “Lawrence of Arabia,” was filmed. However, the city’s greatest claim to fame is The Alcazaba, a massive fort that dominates the landscape and offers amazing views. The cathedral and the Almeria Museum also compete for your attention. Málaga, Spain
